Job Description

The Energy Policy and Economics Group of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), located in Richland, WA, seeks an Energy Analyst Research Associate to conduct and publish research covering several important energy planning and policy questions including public funding, energy markets, resource planning, facility operations, dispatch control, or energy regulation. The successful candidate will work in a cross-disciplinary environment spanning several technical domains. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct energy policy research in close collaboration with other PNNL economists, analysts, engineers and scientists together with outside collaborators, publish scholarly papers in open literature, and participate in national and international research efforts. The associate will play a central role in several cutting-edge or policy-relevant interdisciplinary research projects at PNNL. This position will require in-depth review of regulatory documents; production of analysis (spreadsheet and written) related to resource planning and incentive design; and a keen understanding of electricity management practices. In addition, this position may feature stakeholder engagement, and/or modeling support.

The Energy Policy and Economics Group at PNNL is comprised of an interdisciplinary team of economists, scientists, and engineers dedicated to understanding all aspects of energy markets including efficient technologies, alternative energy resources, resource extraction, national and local impacts of policy, and the interface between human and natural systems.

PNNL is a key National Laboratory executing the Office of Energy Reliability and Electricity Delivery’s Energy Storage Program. This position will support projects within the Equitable Regulatory Environment and Industry Acceptance thrusts of PNNL’s Energy Storage Program. Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a Bachelor’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 required.


Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate must have at least a Bachelor’s degree and no less than 5 years in an energy policy or energy operations position. Experience related to program management, public funding, energy markets, resource planning, facility operations, dispatch control, or energy regulation will be prioritized. Preference for experience, but additional education can be substituted. Demonstrated strong writing skills, communication skills, and independent work. Writing samples requested. Presentation on topic of expertise will be required as part of hiring process.

3.25 GPA or higher is preferred
