The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)’s Buildings & Connected Systems Group is seeking a technical professional experienced in energy and water management in Federal facilities. This position is located at Fort Belvoir in Springfield, VA.
The Buildings & Connected Systems Group performs applied research that drives energy and water efficiency, occupant productivity, and resilient operation of buildings and connected systems to provide economic, environmental, security, and societal benefits to the nation. Our core research capabilities are in building performance evaluation, building controls optimization, and planning and execution of resilient building design and operations.
The individual will be responsible for developing technical approaches for assigned work, performing basic science and engineering tasks and activities with minimal oversight, and contributing to portions of journal papers, reports, Command briefings, and scientific and technical products. Specific duties may include:
•Oversight and tracking of projects across their life-cycle from conceptual design, through execution and closeout.
•Facility audits and analysis of building energy and water consumption using spreadsheets and modeling tools.
•Selecting and utilizing metering equipment, and developing systems models.
•Development of formal briefings, contributions to policy, and decision papers
•Participation/presenting in training workshops to sponsors.
•Develop plans for energy and water resilient installations through on-site generation, storage, renewable energy, micro-grids, etc.
•Execution of projects utilizing both appropriated and third-party financing.
•Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field with 2 or more years of experience or Master’s degree with 0-1 years of experience.
•Must be a US citizen, have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel domestically.
•Must be able to pass a background check to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Common Access Card (CAC) and must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance to work with U.S. military installations.
•Willingness to travel domestically up to 25% of time.
The successful candidate will have:
•Coursework and demonstrated knowledge of building energy systems, energy management and control systems, and sustainable building design and operations
•Experience evaluating building performance, including conducting meter data analysis, facility energy and water audits, life-cycle cost analysis and engineering analysis of energy and water conservation measures.
•Certified Energy Manager accreditation.
•Experience working with the DoD, preferably with Army, or related federal agencies, in the areas of energy management, energy security, public works, or master planning.
•A collaborative approach to problem-solving and a professional attitude.
•Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the ability to create and deliver briefings to senior leadership.
•Demonstrated ability to work effectively with personnel in diverse job functions and levels of responsibility, including directors, technical advisors, and field personnel.
